The forest was thick. Not a single ray of light penetrated through the tree crowns that looked like a solid artificial roof rather than nature’s creation.
Actually in his entire not so long life he hasn’t been in such depths of the forest that he couldn’t even feel the direction.
And this is despite him being a skilful pathfinder. Or… supposed to be skilful. He wasn’t really sure of himself now.
In short. He got lost. Lost like a newbie who goes on an adventure for the first time in his life.
The hero ordered himself not to panic, but that was hard to achieve, since the sun had set and the grey dusk turned into complete darkness.
Every minute it was getting colder and as if that was not enough for a lonely stranger, a thick fog started creeping along the ground.
And in the moment of ultimate darkness suddenly something changed. The forest went completely silent, he couldn’t even hear the usual sounds of bugs or other little creatures.
After a second that felt like an eternity he recognised the only sound he would prefer not to hear.
A hushed sound of war drums in the distance. Hushed at first. Whoever was beating the drums, were obviously moving closer.
‘So the stories are true?’ The village elders have repeated it from generation to generation, warning the people that live next to the forest.
They say that deep in the dark forest lived a tribe that only came out during a full moon. They’re looking for lost wanderers in the woods to take back to their hidden camp and add them to the army of ghost soldiers.
Last year the Baker’s son disappeared after he went for a walk in these woods. They only found his pouch the next morning. No one has heard of him ever since.
For a short moment the crowns of trees drew aside and he saw a full moon rising to the sky.
This scarce ray of moonlight, despite confirming his guesses about the origin of the war drums he was hearing, it also brought him a glimmer of hope.
The light was just enough to see lots of paths leading to the different directions out of the forest. He might still have a chance to survive!
Task: Help the hero to find his way back home.
